The Media Policy Workgroup is comprised of children’s media and health experts who have sought to improve the media policy landscape for children over decades of legislative and regulatory advocacy work. In its white paper, the Workgroup highlighted the need for the stakeholders to convene and develop a strategic work plan to address current gaps in policies to help ensure the needs of young people will be better addressed by both policymakers and the marketplace. Currently, there are very few organizations, some of which represented on this Workgroup, that advocate for policies designed to create a healthy media environment for children, as well as monitor and analyze the fast-moving changes of digital media. Workgroup members recommend a well-supported infrastructure to help facilitate and coordinate the work of groups committed to serving the interests of to develop effective ongoing advocacy, marketplace research, and public education activities.
